Through an interesting use of mass media, namely TV, Mrs. Silvestri's
students worked to determine the percentage of commercials during a typical half hour of television programming. Students
in the class each selected a different network to veiw and report upon. The collected data resulting from the class
experiment was compiled in class and graphed. The students found that, on average, 10 out of every 30 minutes ot network
programming is interrupted by commercial breaks. The students calculated that between 33 to 34% of what we veiw each
evening is advertising! It certainly makes one re-evaluate the amount of time afforded to TV veiwing.
